MBDA’s GDI Simulation is strengthening its military training portfolio through the acquisition of Agenium Group, bringing additional artificial intelligence expertise into its simulation business. Agenium will become fully owned by GDI Simulation, with the two companies combining their capabilities to develop new tools for defence studies, experimentation, and training. Their work will cover multiple operational domains, including land, air, space, and maritime environments. Agenium specializes in virtual training systems, 3D digital content, synthetic environments, and AI-enabled technologies, while GDI Simulation provides military simulation software and training solutions. The integration is expected to introduce Agenium’s AI expertise into GDI Simulation’s established products and services, creating a combined workforce of approximately 120 people. The acquisition reflects the wider defence sector’s growing interest in using AI to transform how military personnel train and how exercises are conducted. Recent initiatives include US military trials involving engineers and trainers embedded in operational activities, along with a British Army plan for an AI-supported Combat Laboratory combining live and virtual training. The US Marine Corps has also introduced a mandatory introductory AI course for active and reserve personnel, covering basic concepts, practical applications, and AI-based decision-support tools.
