Lockheed Martin-authorized MRO provider Aerostar has successfully completed its first Phase Maintenance Inspection (PMI) of a Black Hawk® helicopter for Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI). Finished ahead of schedule, the inspection reflects Aerostar’s technical expertise, high standards, and reliable support for the MAI’s critical helicopter missions.
Previously, Black Hawk operators in Romania were required to handle these inspections in-house, but with Aerostar’s certified support, operators can now concentrate on routine maintenance and operations, improving aircraft readiness across the fleet.
The first PMI’s successful completion is a significant milestone, with a second helicopter already undergoing inspection. The MAI’s Black Hawk fleet supports vital missions, including firefighting, maritime and land search and rescue, medical evacuations, and transport duties.
Sikorsky’s S-70M Black Hawk is engineered to meet stringent military demands and is well-suited for the long-range, high-altitude operations of the MAI. Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, will deliver an additional helicopter in 2024, bringing Romania’s Black Hawk fleet to eight. Manufactured at PZL Mielec in Poland, these helicopters support a range of civil and defense missions throughout Europe and beyond.
