Armed militants from groups associated with Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces and ex-Seleka fighters carried out an attack on a UN peacekeeping base in Am Dafock, near the Central African Republic–Sudan border. The assault injured several Zambian peacekeepers and reportedly caused multiple fatalities according to local administrative sources. The United Nations peacekeeping mission condemned the attack, emphasizing that violence against UN personnel may constitute serious violations of international law, including potential war crimes. The region has become increasingly unstable due to cross-border militant activity, especially in light of the ongoing war in Sudan and the presence of armed groups operating across neighboring territories. Reports also suggested that retaliatory airstrikes may have been conducted in response, further intensifying the conflict dynamics in the area. Am Dafock’s location makes it a key transit and strategic zone, often affected by armed incursions and shifting control between competing factions.
