Spanish defense firm Indra Sistemas has formed a consortium to develop a next-generation AESA counter-battery radar for the Spanish Army under a 30-million-euro contract. The project will replace the long-serving AN/TPQ-36 Firefinder radar and will be designed and produced primarily within Spain. Multiple domestic companies and universities will contribute to engineering, sensors, and manufacturing activities across several regions. The radar will use Gallium Nitride technology and software-defined communications to provide improved detection range, accuracy, and resilience to electronic interference while supporting automated operations and multiple mission roles.
