Cyprus has taken another step toward modernizing its defense posture as the Cypriot National Guard receives two H-10 Poseidon surveillance drones, developed by local aerospace firm Swarmly Aero. The acquisition strengthens the island nation’s ISR capabilities while highlighting growing investment in domestically produced military technology.

The H-10 Poseidon UAV is engineered for operations in high-threat and adverse conditions, offering round-the-clock surveillance capabilities. With a maximum operational altitude of 5 kilometers and a 50-kilometer mission radius, the drone supports reconnaissance missions, battlefield monitoring, and artillery fire coordination, delivering real-time targeting data to ground forces.

To enhance survivability against modern air defenses, the H-10 Poseidon incorporates low-detectability features, including limited radar reflection and a minimized thermal signature. The platform also integrates robust electronic countermeasures, such as anti-jamming and anti-spoofing technology. In scenarios where GPS signals are denied or manipulated, the UAV can maintain navigation through alternative satellite systems, ensuring uninterrupted mission execution.

The drone has already gained operational credibility through extensive deployment in Ukraine, with over 200 units supplied to Kyiv, and further exports to Indonesia. Alongside boosting domestic defense production, Cyprus continues to diversify its military procurement portfolio. The delivery of H145M helicopters under a 2022 Airbus contract and renewed access to U.S. foreign military sales programs—following a policy change in early 2025—underscore Nicosia’s broader strategy to enhance security and promote regional stability in the Mediterranean.
