BAE Systems and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) have entered into a strategic partnership to jointly develop drone technologies, deepening the defense and aerospace cooperation between the United Kingdom and Turkey. The newly signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) establishes a framework for collaboration on innovative unmanned aerial systems (UAS), focusing on speed, cost-efficiency, and scalability for future military operations.
The alliance will bring together BAE’s proven expertise in autonomous flight and advanced air systems with TAI’s robust design and production infrastructure. Engineers from both companies will work closely to identify joint R&D opportunities, aiming to deliver next-generation drone platforms capable of meeting evolving mission requirements across both nations’ defense forces.
BAE Systems has been at the forefront of AI-assisted aviation and experimental aircraft programs, including the Mantis and Taranis demonstrators. The company is also developing an autonomous loyal wingman concept that will operate alongside crewed fighters as part of the UK’s Future Combat Air System (FCAS) and Tempest program, strengthening the nation’s future air combat capabilities.
Turkish Aerospace Industries, meanwhile, continues to advance its role as a major player in unmanned aviation. Its Anka and Aksungur UAS are already operational in long-endurance ISR roles, while the Anka III introduces a stealth flying-wing design optimized for strike and electronic warfare. TAI is also leading national programs such as the Kaan fifth-generation fighter and Hurjet light combat jet, reinforcing Turkey’s ambition to achieve a self-reliant defense aerospace ecosystem.
