Saab is adapting its Giraffe AMB radar technology for maritime operations through the Sea Giraffe AMB D, a system designed to provide naval forces with three-dimensional surveillance of aerial and surface threats. The radar can detect, track and classify both crewed platforms and uncrewed systems, helping operators identify potential dangers at an early stage. According to the supplied report, it can monitor airborne targets at distances of up to 250 km (155 miles), while surface targets can be detected at ranges of up to 50 km (31 miles). This combination of surveillance capabilities is intended to improve maritime situational awareness by enabling naval crews to monitor activity across the air and surface domains using a common radar system. Its focus on early detection and target classification is relevant to operations involving aircraft, drones and surface vessels. The Sea Giraffe AMB D represents Saab’s effort to extend its radar capabilities into naval applications, where timely threat identification and a comprehensive operational picture are essential for effective surveillance and response.
