British drone manufacturer Windracers is set to significantly enhance the performance of its ULTRA cargo drone, increasing its payload capacity to 200 kilograms while maintaining a range of more than 2,000 kilometers. The upgrade, announced at the company’s LAUNCH 2026 showcase, is expected to enter service shortly and will broaden the drone’s appeal across military and humanitarian missions.
The ULTRA heavy-lift unmanned aircraft is already capable of long-range flights carrying over 100 kilograms, and has been adopted for operations in multiple countries. Designed as a dual-use platform, the fixed-wing drone supports both defense requirements and civilian logistics, offering a cost-effective alternative to crewed air transport for long-distance cargo delivery.
Operational experience includes deployment in Ukraine, where the ULTRA has been used for ISR missions and battlefield resupply since 2023. In parallel, the aircraft has been evaluated in remote civilian environments, including Alaska, where researchers are studying how large unmanned aircraft can safely deliver medical supplies and essential cargo to isolated communities.
According to Windracers, the drone’s 10-hour endurance, ability to operate on standard fuel, and resilience in harsh weather conditions make it well suited for remote and underserved regions. The company also plans to expand ULTRA operations into Africa, targeting logistics and connectivity challenges across vast and infrastructure-limited areas.
