Lithuania has awarded Saab a significant contract for a third MSHORAD air-defense battery, continuing its rapid investment in mobile, short-range air-defense systems. Valued at nearly 1.4 billion SEK ($148 million), the latest order will be delivered from 2026 through 2030, reinforcing Lithuania’s readiness amid growing geopolitical tension in the Baltic region.

Saab will equip Oshkosh JLTV 4×4 vehicles with the MSHORAD architecture, providing air-defense troops with high mobility and quick-reaction capability. The system integrates the RBS 70 NG missile launcher, the Giraffe 1X 3D radar, and a modern command-and-control suite linked via secure datalinks. This configuration enables forces to rapidly detect, identify, and counter hostile drones, aircraft, and low-flying threats on the move.

The new contract builds on Lithuania’s expanding partnership with Saab. In 2023, Vilnius purchased Carl-Gustaf M4 ammunition, followed by deliveries in 2024 and a further 2025 order for more rifles and spare parts. These ongoing procurements highlight the country’s multi-year effort to enhance its ground and air-defense inventory.

Saab had previously received two MSHORAD contracts from Lithuania in 2024, giving the armed forces their first and second mobile air-defense batteries. The addition of a third unit now completes a growing fleet of integrated RBS 70 NG and Giraffe 1X-based systems, significantly strengthening Lithuania’s defensive resilience along NATO’s northeastern frontier.
