Imaging technology supplier Exosens is set to provide the Spanish Army with 17,000 cutting-edge monocular night vision devices in a sweeping modernization initiative for the country’s military optics. Manufacturing will be handled by Night Vision Lasers Spain (NVLS), now part of the Exosens group, leveraging their specialized production capabilities.
The core of the acquisition is a next-generation monocular boasting a 50-degree wide field of view, based on advanced 16mm 4G image intensifier tubes. Unlike dual-lens binocular counterparts, these monoculars offer a lightweight, versatile design that soldiers can attach to helmets or weapon mounts for superior night-time situational awareness. Thanks to its updated architecture, the new device delivers a visible image scope that’s over 60 percent larger than standard 40-degree models, without increasing size or weight.
By incorporating Exosens’ premium image intensifier technology, the Spanish Army will benefit from crisp resolution and enhanced sensitivity under extremely low-light conditions. This major contract spans 2025 to 2028 and reflects Spain’s broader strategy to field next-gen optics for its ground forces, building on previous procurement of AN/PVS-14 monoculars in 2019 and adoption of 16mm 4G binoculars for naval and army missions.
The deal signals a growing priority across NATO for improved night-fighting abilities and sensor solutions—essential for operational superiority. NATO units stationed in Eastern Europe have placed special emphasis on these capabilities during recent joint exercises, underscoring their role alongside advanced vehicles and weapon systems in shaping future battlefield outcomes. Here are two detailed rewrites suited for a news website:
