In a significant step to deepen bilateral defense ties, Hanwha Aerospace of South Korea has signed two agreements with Polish defense institutions to boost local ammunition certification and missile production capabilities. The move reflects Poland’s accelerated military buildup and its determination to develop a stronger domestic defense base.

The agreements come after a series of major acquisitions from Hanwha, including self-propelled howitzers and rocket launch systems, ordered in the wake of Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. For Warsaw, partnerships like this reduce dependence on imports and ensure the country can sustain its own production in the long term.

A key component of the cooperation is a memorandum of understanding with Poland’s Military Institute of Armament Technology (WITU). The deal outlines plans to test 155-millimeter artillery ammunition, collaborate on technical improvements, and explore joint R&D initiatives to support the Polish Armed Forces.

Hanwha stated that the partnership will provide Poland with ammunition certification for its howitzer fleet while contributing to a broader goal of building a European-based ammunition production ecosystem, strengthening both national defense and NATO interoperability.
