In a groundbreaking step, the Republic of Korea Air Force has adopted its first AI-based tactical training and flight simulation system. The tool is built around reinforcement learning (RL), a branch of artificial intelligence that relies on trial and error to improve performance over time.
Through this method, the simulator “teaches” itself by executing various actions, receiving positive reinforcement for effective maneuvers, and progressively determining the most efficient strategies. This allows it to adapt and evolve autonomously, offering an advanced approach to tactical development.
Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) spearheaded the development of the system, integrating a virtual aircraft platform with authentic tactical data. This blend of real-world information and AI processing ensures high accuracy in simulated mission environments.
The adoption of this technology marks a shift toward intelligent, data-driven training solutions for the Korean Air Force. It reduces reliance on conventional human-led instruction while providing a scalable, innovative platform for modern air combat preparation.
