The US Department of Defense has awarded Tetramer Technologies a $12.5 million contract to enhance protective gear with its proprietary metal-organic framework (MOF) bead technology. The effort, supported through the Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Consortium, aims to improve the protective clothing of troops deployed in high-threat CBRN scenarios.
Under the agreement, Tetramer will focus on multi-year research and development, leading to field-ready suits that neutralize hazardous materials upon contact. The company’s flagship MOF bead system captures and destroys chemical warfare agents as well as toxic industrial substances, offering soldiers greater safety on the battlefield.
A key element of the project is maintaining a balance between protection and practicality. The enhanced uniforms are expected to be lightweight, durable, and suitable for extended use in demanding conditions. Partnering with Kappler, a specialist in protective gear, Tetramer will ensure that fabrics are not only protective but also meet strict military standards for comfort and wearability.
The initiative will also involve collaboration with Advanced Functional Fabrics of America to conduct rigorous testing under simulated combat and threat conditions. Together, the partners aim to set a new benchmark for modern tactical clothing in defense operations.
