Thales is introducing a next-generation, AI-driven sonar system aimed at transforming undersea surveillance and warfare. The new Sonar 76Nano system is designed for deployment across unmanned platforms, seabed installations, and traditional crewed vessels, expanding access to advanced underwater detection capabilities across naval fleets.

The compact sonar was developed in a rapid 10-month timeline and incorporates the core acoustic technologies of Thales’ well-established Sonar 2076. Enhanced by artificial intelligence, Sonar 76Nano improves the speed and precision of target detection and identification, offering strong performance in congested and contested undersea environments where traditional systems face limitations.

As a fully digital-native solution, Sonar 76Nano is compatible with UK and NATO defense networks, enabling distributed operations and seamless data sharing between platforms. The system allows navies to distribute sonar coverage across a larger number of assets rather than concentrating capability on a few high-value ships, supporting the Royal Navy’s Atlantic Bastion strategy for resilient, multi-layered undersea defense in the North Atlantic and beyond.
