The British Army has selected Rheinmetall UK to deliver its Trailblazer vision and situational awareness system for the M270 A2 Multiple Launch Rocket System, further modernizing the service’s long-range fires capability. The contract, worth several million euros, covers system development, integration, and production for the upgraded MLRS variant.

According to Rheinmetall UK, prototype Trailblazer systems will be available in early 2026, with serial production expected to commence later that year. The solution combines day, thermal, and sensor-fused vision, significantly improving driver and commander awareness during operations in darkness, dust, smoke, fog, and harsh weather environments.

The company’s scope of work includes the delivery of forward driver sensors, side and rear remote cameras, installation kits, ruggedized wiring, crew controls, and protective housings. Trailblazer has already been adopted by seven international customers, enabling a common vision architecture across multiple vehicle types and mission profiles.

With the MLRS integration, Trailblazer will be installed on its 17th military platform, highlighting Rheinmetall UK’s expanding footprint in armored vehicle electronics. The system is already operational on key British Army platforms, including the Challenger 3 MBT, Boxer 8×8 armored vehicle, and Warrior IFV, helping to standardize situational awareness and enhance combat effectiveness across the fleet.
