Taiwan’s defense authorities are reviewing the cancellation of a NT$987.81 million contract for fixed-location counter-unmanned aerial system equipment after the supplied technology failed to satisfy required military evaluation standards.The contract awarded to Tron Future involved the delivery of 26 ground-based platforms designed to identify low-profile drone threats and neutralize them through electronic interference capabilities. The systems were expected to detect drones from distances of approximately 6 kilometers and disrupt their operations within a range of up to 4 kilometers.However, the equipment reportedly failed multiple assessment stages, including prototype validation and initial acceptance evaluations. During one test scenario, a commercial drone reportedly entered a restricted area without triggering detection, raising concerns regarding operational effectiveness and reliability.The situation highlights the challenges faced by defense organizations in developing dependable counter-drone technologies capable of responding to rapidly evolving unmanned threats.
