Private air combat training provider Top Aces has secured a decade-long contract with Germany’s military, valued at up to €420 million, to deliver high-fidelity adversary and joint-force training services. The agreement represents one of Europe’s largest outsourced air combat training programs and aims to enhance the operational preparedness of German forces.

As part of the deal, Top Aces will operate upgraded A-4N Skyhawks and Alpha Jet aircraft, configured to replicate modern combat threats. The aircraft will be equipped with AESA radar technology and the proprietary Advanced Aggressor Mission System, enabling highly realistic simulation of next-generation fighter tactics during training exercises.

The AAMS system features an open, modular avionics architecture, allowing the integration of advanced sensors and mission equipment. It supports helmet-mounted sighting, secure datalinks, electronic warfare pods, and virtual weapons, creating a realistic adversary environment across air, maritime, and joint-force operations. These capabilities allow German forces to train against credible threats without diverting frontline fighter aircraft from operational duties.

The A-4N Skyhawk, measuring just over 40 feet in length and weighing nearly 20,000 pounds at takeoff, is used for comprehensive pilot training, including adversary roles, anti-shipping missions, and multinational exercises. Meanwhile, the Alpha Jet, powered by twin SNECMA Larzac engines, supports air-to-air gunnery training, electronic warfare instruction, and naval strike simulations, offering versatile and cost-effective support across Germany’s air and naval training requirements.
