The United Kingdom and Norway have officially joined the Common Armored Vehicle System (CAVS) program, a multinational initiative spearheaded by Finland and defense manufacturer Patria. This makes them the sixth and seventh nations in the effort, alongside Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Germany, and Denmark. The program aims to create a standardized 6×6 armored vehicle fleet that enhances interoperability, shared logistics, and long-term sustainability among European allies. Based on Patria’s proven 8×8 armored personnel carrier, the CAVS platform promises a 30-year service life and robust adaptability across missions. Powered by a Scania diesel engine with 394 horsepower, the vehicle reaches speeds of up to 100 km/h and has a range exceeding 700 km. Its 20-ton capacity accommodates a driver, commander, gunner, and up to 10 troops. Nearly 1,000 units have already been ordered by participating members, with 250 delivered. The inclusion of the UK and Norway reflects a shared commitment to bolster NATO defense frameworks, strengthen industrial collaboration, and enhance mobility fleets to counter evolving security threats in Europe.
