The US Army has contracted Mack Defense to supply up to 450 M917A3 Heavy Dump Trucks, with the agreement valued at $221.8 million. The trucks will replace older models and enhance operational readiness for active, reserve, and National Guard formations.
Assembly will be split between Mack’s dedicated HDT production facility at the Experience Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania—established after a $6.5 million investment in 2021—and its Lehigh Valley Operations site in Macungie. This dual-site manufacturing approach will ensure timely delivery of the large order.
The new vehicles will play a vital role in military construction and logistics, handling projects such as building and repairing runways, road networks, storage depots, and motor pools. They will also provide heavy transport support during natural disasters, delivering essential aid and infrastructure repair capabilities under extreme conditions.
By introducing the M917A3 into service, the Army aims to expand its fleet of rugged, high-performance work trucks, reinforcing both combat engineering capacity and humanitarian response capabilities at home and abroad.
