The Turkish Armed Forces have introduced the T-155 TTA, the country’s first indigenous self-propelled howitzer, signifying a major advancement in Turkey’s artillery modernization and defense autonomy. The induction underscores the nation’s long-term strategy to replace imported artillery systems with homegrown, high-performance alternatives.
Developed under the coordination of the Turkish Ministry of National Defense, the T-155 TTA integrates MKE’s 155mm Panter gun onto a BMC 8×8 tactical chassis, equipped with Aselsan’s fire control and targeting suite. System integration and production were handled by the 2nd Main Maintenance Factory Directorate, demonstrating close cooperation among Turkey’s leading defense contractors.
The program originated from a 2020 contract awarded to ASFAT by the General Directorate of Military Factories, with the first successful firing test conducted in December 2022. The system underwent a comprehensive three-year testing and qualification process, validating its performance under demanding field conditions.
During trials, the prototype traveled over 20,000 kilometers across multiple terrain types and fired nearly 350 rounds, proving its reliability, precision, and endurance. The successful induction of the T-155 TTA strengthens Turkey’s artillery strike capabilities, while reinforcing its ambition to achieve self-sufficiency in defense manufacturing and expand exports of indigenous land combat systems.
