Switzerland is upgrading its defense capabilities with a major push to acquire multispectral camouflage technologies that allow military assets to evade detection from drones, radar, infrared devices, and other modern surveillance tools. The initiative reflects the growing importance of concealment and signature management in today’s digitally driven battlefield.
To meet this need, the Swiss procurement authority Armasuisse conducted rigorous testing of camouflage solutions from several European defense manufacturers. After completing evaluation trials, Armasuisse awarded contracts to SSZ Camouflage Technology AG (Switzerland), Saro GmbH (Germany), and Saab (Sweden), selecting them as the best-performing providers.
The acquisition is divided into 14 distinct procurement lots, with each lot assigned to the supplier offering the most effective camouflage technology for its specific operational category. This approach allows Switzerland to tailor camouflage systems based on terrain type, military platform, and threat environment.
By partnering with multiple European firms, Switzerland ensures access to cutting-edge signature-reduction technologies that improve the protection of soldiers, vehicles, and critical military facilities. The new camouflage systems are expected to significantly enhance the Swiss Armed Forces’ ability to operate discreetly and safely amid increasingly sophisticated surveillance threats.
