Sweden and Denmark on Tuesday announced plans to procure air defense equipment worth 2.6 billion Swedish kronor ($290 million) for Ukraine, as the country works to counter sustained Russian missile and drone attacks.
Under the agreement, Sweden will contribute 2.1 billion kronor, with Denmark funding the remainder, to supply Ukraine with the TRIDON Mk2 mobile air defense system, the defense ministers of both nations said.
The announcement follows continued strikes on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. An AFP assessment found that while Russia conducted fewer aerial attacks in January than the previous month, the bombardment still inflicted serious damage on energy facilities.
As a result, Ukraine has faced some of the most severe electricity, heating, and water shortages of the nearly four-year conflict, increasing concerns over a deepening humanitarian crisis.
