Raytheon and Northrop Grumman have demonstrated the next-level rocket motors for the Army’s upcoming short-range interceptor, the NGSRI, intended to take over from the Stinger.
Equipped with Highly Loaded Grain fuel, the motor generates extended thrust duration and power, allowing the missile to travel farther and faster. It can be fired via shoulder, tripod, or vehicle.
The latest test series featured three controlled static fires and a live ballistic shot. Additional testing is slated soon. In February 2025, Raytheon completed a full assessment of the interceptor’s seeker, propulsion, launcher, and explosive payload.
