In a significant boost to its military mobility and interoperability, Denmark has signed a contract with Finnish defense manufacturer Patria for the supply of 129 CAVS 6×6 armored vehicles. The delivery of these vehicles is set to begin within the year, paving the way for Danish troops to start training with them ahead of their planned deployment in 2026.
This move marks Denmark’s full integration into the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) program, a collaborative defense initiative comprising Finland, Latvia, Sweden, and Germany. Copenhagen cemented its participation by signing three key agreements—covering research and development, framework planning, and lifecycle management—all of which are vital to joining the program. Denmark had earlier signaled its intent to join in April by signing the technical arrangement.
The CAVS program, initiated in 2020, aims to deliver a modular and uniform 6×6 vehicle platform that can be adapted by partner nations for a wide range of roles. So far, Patria has received close to 1,000 vehicle orders under this program, delivering over 200 units.
Denmark plans to use the newly acquired platforms to strengthen its infantry and engineering units. The vehicles will be configured for diverse roles including mobile command posts, communication hubs, ambulances, and electronic warfare systems. While production is centered in Finland, the vehicles will also incorporate Danish-manufactured components, emphasizing cross-border industrial cooperation.
Built on the tried-and-tested Patria 6×6 platform, these armored vehicles are designed for optimal performance in high-threat environments. With STANAG level 2 ballistic and mine protection, they provide robust survivability alongside excellent mobility and adaptability—making them ideal for both frontline deployment and support operations.
