Spanish defense technology firm Indra has taken over a manufacturing plant in Gijón, Asturias, marking a strategic push to enhance its land vehicle production capabilities. The acquisition from Duro Felguera includes the onboarding of over 150 technical personnel.

The facility spans 75,000 square meters of land with 23,000 square meters of sheltered manufacturing space. Indra aims to retrofit the plant for the assembly of modern tactical ground vehicles, such as tracked and wheeled systems.

As part of the upgrade, the company will initiate workforce training specific to defense manufacturing and invest in advanced machinery and facility improvements. This effort signals the beginning of Indra’s transformation of Asturias into its land systems industrial base.

Indra remains a prominent player in European defense, providing smart automation systems for armored vehicles and contributing to major programs like the FAMOUS APC, MARTE battle tank, and Spain’s Dragon 8×8 through the TESS Defence consortium.
