The planned NASAMS deployment reflects Belgium’s broader modernization of national air defense capabilities. In recent years, Brussels has committed to acquiring multiple NASAMS batteries through cooperation with Norway and the Netherlands, while also investing in short-range Skyranger systems and Polish-made Piorun man-portable air defense missiles. The Antwerp installation demonstrates the extension of military-grade protection to strategic economic hubs, reinforcing resilience against aerial threats ranging from cruise missiles to small unmanned platforms.
