The European defense firm MBDA has upgraded its MISTRAL 3 missile system to improve its effectiveness against fast-moving inshore boats and small aerial threats. This enhancement was confirmed following a successful qualification trial held in Spain.

The improvements focus on refined guidance, better flight controls, and advanced image processing, allowing the missile to track and destroy agile maritime threats and drones with low infrared signatures—even in nighttime conditions. Among the tested targets was a Shahed-type drone, which simulates real-world scenarios seen in recent conflicts.

MBDA emphasized that such evolving threats are a critical concern for modern navies. With its latest enhancements, the MISTRAL 3 remains the only combat-tested, very short-range air defense system capable of countering these threats reliably in all lighting conditions.
