The US Navy is boosting its firepower by upgrading the USS Zumwalt (DDG-1000) with hypersonic weapons through a $1.35-billion deal with Lockheed Martin. The ship’s older gun systems have been replaced with powerful missile launch tubes that can carry advanced hypersonic missiles capable of striking targets over 2,700 km away. This upgrade turns the Zumwalt from a coastal combat ship into a long-range strike powerhouse. The Navy also plans to install this system on other ships and submarines, making its fleet more powerful and future-ready.
