EuroTrophy and KNDS Deutschland have finalized a €330 million agreement to equip the Leopard 2A8 main battle tanks ordered by Lithuania, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and Croatia with the Trophy Active Protection System. Valued at approximately $383 million, the contract covers not only system delivery but also training, spare components, and integrated logistical support.
The Leopard 2A8 will incorporate Trophy as a standard survivability feature, allowing the four European nations to field a uniform defensive configuration across their armored forces. EuroTrophy described the deal as a milestone that establishes Trophy as the NATO standard active protection system, tailored for the evolving threat environment on the modern European battlefield.
Trophy is a combat-proven active protection solution currently deployed on multiple armored platforms worldwide. Beyond the Leopard 2, it is operational on the M1 Abrams and Merkava IV, and has been adapted for wheeled and tracked infantry fighting vehicles, including the Boxer and Patria AMV, reflecting growing demand for active protection across force structures.
The system operates through an automated detect-and-defeat sequence, using radar sensors to monitor the surrounding airspace for incoming threats. Once a hostile projectile is confirmed, Trophy deploys a countermeasure to intercept it before impact, while simultaneously identifying the point of origin. This information is fed into a digital battle management system, enhancing situational awareness and enabling coordinated responses by friendly forces.
