Saab has secured a major export order from Latvia’s defense ministry involving the RBS 70 NG missile system, a next-generation, man-portable short-range air defense system (SHORAD). The contract includes complete fire units supported by training platforms and logistics packages, with distribution spread over five years.
Designed for 24/7 all-weather use, the system delivers enhanced target tracking and engagement using non-radioactive laser-guided munitions. Its modular build allows rapid deployment and redeployment, critical in Baltic mobile defense doctrine.
This procurement marks a major step in Latvia’s force modernization, prioritizing multi-domain deterrence and improved airspace sovereignty in coordination with allied units.
