The Kosovo government has finalized a contract with US-based AM General for the acquisition of HUMVEE-mounted mobile artillery systems, strengthening the Kosovo Security Force’s indirect fire and maneuver warfare capabilities. Central to the deal is the Hawkeye 105mm soft-recoil howitzer, a lightweight artillery solution designed for rapid deployment and high mobility.

Mounted on the HUMVEE platform, the Hawkeye system is equipped with a 105-millimeter M20-based cannon that can be attached or disengaged in under 90 seconds, allowing units to reposition quickly. The weapon delivers full 360-degree traverse, fires up to eight rounds per minute, and can strike targets at distances of up to 20 kilometers, depending on ammunition selection.

Beyond the artillery vehicles, the contract includes logistics support, spare parts, and comprehensive training, along with medical support vehicles, command-and-control trucks, and additional mission-specific platforms. These assets are intended to enhance operational coordination, survivability, and sustained combat performance of Kosovo’s artillery units.

According to AM General, deliveries will begin between 2026 and 2027, marking the first-ever export sale of the HUMVEE Hawkeye system. Originally introduced in 2016 as a development demonstrator, the platform later underwent simulated exercises and combat evaluations with Ukrainian forces in 2024, before its official market launch in 2025, featuring a lighter, more flexible drivetrain and improved overall design.
