India has covertly launched its fourth nuclear-powered ballistic missile (SSBN) submarine that was developed in the country. Code-named S-4*, the recently launched SSBN is capable of launching missiles with nuclear tips. 2009 saw the launch of India’s first domestic SSBN, which was put into service in 2016. On August 29, 2024, the Indian Navy inducted INS Arighaat, its second SSBN, this year. It is anticipated that INS Aridhaman, the third submarine, will go into service in 2025.By next year, India’s second-strike nuclear capabilities will be completely operationalized thanks to the introduction of INS Aridhaman. Equipped with K-4 submarine-launched missiles, the INS Aridhaman (Destroyer of Enemy) has a 3500 km range.
