General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) has been given a contract by Germany to supply the army’s ground telecommunications expansion project with Piranha V armored fighting vehicles. A 15-meter (49-foot) Tactical Wide Area Network telescopic tower will be installed on each of the 256 platforms ordered under the “three-digit-million range” deal. These platforms will serve as the force’s future connectivity point for directional radio management and mobile communications. By building a facility in Neubrandenburg, GDELS will serve the fleet’s technical needs, logistics, and maintenance. In 2026, 58 vehicles will be delivered as part of the first phase.
