In a significant boost to its internal security operations, Haiti has received seven Senator MRAP armored vehicles, the first batch in a 17-unit procurement plan designed to modernize its ground forces. The vehicles will help support counter-gang missions and law enforcement patrols, improving troop safety and operational mobility across high-risk zones.

The newly acquired Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles will assist in convoy security, border patrols, and humanitarian deployments, offering enhanced defense against small arms, roadside bombs, and ambush attacks. Their arrival represents an important step in protecting Haitian troops amid escalating gang violence and instability in several regions.

Manufactured by Canada’s Roshel Defense Solutions, the Senator MRAP is engineered to meet NATO armor standards, offering protection against ballistic rounds, artillery fragments, and mine blasts. The vehicle’s V-shaped underbody disperses explosive energy away from occupants, while its rugged 4×4 chassis ensures reliable off-road performance in challenging terrains.

Built on a Ford F-550 platform, the Senator measures 6 meters in length and carries up to 10 personnel with a payload capacity of 2 tons. It is powered by a 330-horsepower V8 6.7-liter diesel engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission, achieving speeds up to 120 km/h and a maximum range of 800 km. The deployment of these MRAPs marks a major leap in Haiti’s security modernization, reinforcing the country’s resilience in the fight against armed criminal groups.
