The Israeli government has awarded Elbit Systems a $183 million, multi-year contract to provide air munitions, marking another step in Israel’s drive to strengthen domestic defense production and inventory readiness. Issued by the Ministry of Defense’s Defense Procurement Directorate, the order prioritizes locally manufactured munitions to support sustained operational requirements.
According to Defense Minister Israel Katz, expanding Israel’s defense industrial base is essential to meeting both current security needs and long-term strategic challenges. He noted that increasing domestic output helps protect supply chains, lowers dependence on overseas suppliers, and supports force modernization during what officials expect to be a prolonged period of heightened security demands.
The Elbit deal is part of a broader portfolio of multi-year defense procurement programs covering air, land, and other operational domains. Beyond replenishing munitions stocks, the ministry views these contracts as a means to scale industrial capacity, enhance export potential, and deliver wider economic benefits through sustained defense sector growth.
The agreement builds on a pattern of elevated defense spending in recent years. In 2024, Israel accelerated procurement of precision-guided munitions from Elbit to meet the demands of high-intensity operations. Additional investments have included expanded purchases of Iron Dome interceptors, the scaling of C-Dome naval air defense production, and continued support for Israel Aerospace Industries to boost output of long-range missiles and precision strike systems, with a focus on faster manufacturing and increased local sourcing.
