The Czech Ministry of Defence has signed a major seven-year service agreement with Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH, worth approximately CZK 6.16 billion (EUR 250 million), aimed at supporting the upkeep of its Leopard 2A4 main battle tank fleet. The contract ensures comprehensive maintenance, repairs, and parts delivery, going well beyond basic logistical support.

This move is part of the country’s broader military modernization effort, marking a significant step away from reliance on older Soviet equipment towards fully integrating NATO-standard armored platforms. Lubor Koudelka, a senior MoD official, highlighted the necessity of dependable servicing for efficient tank operations and the strategic importance of aligning Czech armored forces with Western technologies.

Included in the contract are 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks recently purchased from Rheinmetall and 30 additional units donated by Germany as compensation for Czech support to Ukraine. Rheinmetall’s role now spans both the provision and maintenance of these vehicles, ensuring consistency, reliability, and full operational capability as the Czech Army moves firmly into the NATO framework.
