Rheinmetall Landsysteme is set to supply an additional 14 Leopard 2 A4 main battle tanks (MBTs) to the Czech Republic by the end of 2026, following a contract announced by the Czech Ministry of Defence on December 3, 2024. The contract is valued at approximately CZK 4 billion (around EUR 160 million). Under this agreement, Rheinmetall will overhaul the MBTs and partially equip them to meet Czech requirements, potentially including tanks from the Swiss Army’s inventory, which the Czech Republic had shown interest in back in 2023. At that time, Rheinmetall was selected to purchase 25 MBTs from Switzerland, which were delivered in early 2024.This move is part of the Czech Republic’s ongoing efforts to modernize and strengthen its armored forces, replacing its Russian-made MBTs with used Leopard 2 A4s, with the German government financing the exchange. Since 2023, 28 Leopard 2 A4 MBTs and two Büffel 3 armored recovery vehicles have been scheduled for delivery by 2024, with approximately half already arriving. With the new order placed on December 3, the Czech inventory of Leopard 2 A4 MBTs is set to reach 42 by 2026.
