Following a lukewarm reception to the proposed BrahMos-2K hypersonic cruise missile, BrahMos Aerospace, in collaboration with Russia, is reassessing the missile’s technical specifications and pricing strategy. Feedback revealed concerns about the high developmental and unit costs, prompting both nations to engage in discussions aimed at refining the missile’s design to enhance capabilities while optimizing costs. The BrahMos-2K was conceived as an Indian variant of Russia’s 3M22 Zircon, a scramjet-powered hypersonic cruise missile. It was originally designed to achieve speeds of Mach 6 with a range of 800-900 kilometers. Unlike some other strategic missiles, the BrahMos-2K was intended solely for conventional warfare, excluding nuclear payloads, to serve as an advanced offensive weapon for the Indian Armed Forces.
