The US Army has launched a new modernization push by awarding $15.5 million in contracts to three domestic companies tasked with equipping Infantry Support Vehicles (ISVs) with autonomous functions. The initiative aims to reduce soldier risk while increasing operational efficiency.
The recipients of the contracts are Forterra (Maryland), Overland AI (Washington), and Scout AI (California). These companies will adapt their commercial autonomy solutions to meet Army requirements, helping to transform ISVs into smarter and more versatile battlefield assets.
Under the Unmanned Systems Autonomy program, prototype vehicles are scheduled for delivery and field demonstrations in May 2026. These tests will provide critical data on the performance and dependability of the new systems in dynamic environments.
If the results meet expectations, the Army plans to explore the adaptation of these autonomy technologies across additional ground vehicles, signaling a significant step toward future-ready unmanned land operations.
