In a major step toward defense industrial cooperation, Anduril Industries and Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) have signed an MoU to jointly develop and manufacture autonomous cruise missile systems, including a locally produced version of the Barracuda-500M. The partnership underscores Poland’s strategy to expand indigenous missile production and strengthen transatlantic defense collaboration.
Under the agreement, Polish suppliers and PGZ subsidiaries will be directly involved in the development and assembly of the Barracuda-500M to meet operational requirements of the Polish Armed Forces. The system is part of Anduril’s Barracuda-M series, unveiled in 2024, and has been designed as a modular, affordable, and easily upgradable platform adaptable to rapidly evolving combat environments.
The Barracuda-500M is an autonomous, air-launched cruise missile compatible with fighter jets such as the F-16 and C-130 transport aircraft. It features a payload capacity of 100 pounds (45 kilograms) and an operational range of up to 500 nautical miles (926 kilometers), capable of striking both static and moving targets on land or sea.
Engineered for high-volume, cost-efficient production, the Barracuda series leverages commercial off-the-shelf components and a streamlined manufacturing process using “10 or fewer assembly tools.” This approach minimizes logistical complexity and enables Poland to rapidly scale missile output, reinforcing NATO’s deterrence posture and Europe’s access to advanced, low-cost precision weapons.
