A 35mm cannon-based very short-range air defense system with programmable airburst ammunition has been unveiled by Polish state military company Pit-Radwar. The system’s projectile, known as the SA-35MM, is inductively programmed to disintegrate at the right moment for optimal impact. Its compressed explosion makes it possible to use less ammunition for interception, especially against tiny targets like drones. Only seven airburst rounds are needed with the programmable ammo for a hit probability of 97 percent, as opposed to 24 standard TP-T/FAPDS-T projectiles that are needed to bring down a drone with a strike rate of 99 percent.
