Military aviation training is evolving as CAE and Leonardo expand their cooperation to prepare pilots for future combat environments through advanced simulation and digital technologies. The latest agreement focuses on enhancing training programmes for the M-346 Master, an advanced jet trainer designed to prepare pilots for modern fighter aircraft operations. By integrating advanced flight simulation, digital learning platforms and modern training technologies, the partnership aims to develop a more comprehensive training environment that bridges the gap between basic flying skills and advanced combat preparation.

The programme will combine live flying exercises with virtual simulations and computer-generated battlefield environments, allowing pilots to experience realistic mission scenarios before transitioning to frontline fighter aircraft. These integrated training methods are expected to improve pilot judgement, tactical awareness, mission planning and decision-making under challenging operational conditions. High-fidelity simulators will also enable trainees to practise complex aerial manoeuvres, emergency procedures and combat scenarios while allowing instructors to assess performance and identify areas requiring improvement. This approach can help improve training efficiency while reducing dependence on certain live-flight exercises.

The partnership also reflects the growing importance of preparing military training systems for future technologies, including artificial intelligence, automation and next-generation combat capabilities. As modern fighter aircraft become increasingly sophisticated, pilot training programmes must evolve to address advanced avionics, network-enabled operations and complex mission requirements. With countries including Canada adopting the M-346 platform, the aircraft is expected to play an important role in preparing pilots for modern combat aviation. The expanded cooperation between CAE and Leonardo highlights the industry’s shift towards integrated, technology-driven training solutions for the next generation of military pilots.
