US unmanned systems manufacturer General Atomics Aeronautical Systems is strengthening its presence in command, control, and intelligence software with a new cooperation agreement signed with Qatar-based defense firm Barzan Holdings. The move reflects GA-ASI’s growing focus on battle management and data-centric defense technologies.
The two companies have formalized their collaboration through a memorandum of understanding, setting the foundation for the joint development of battle management software. The partnership includes GA-ASI’s analytics arm, GA-Intelligence, and aims to deliver software solutions that enhance operational visibility and situational awareness at the theater level.
GA-ASI and Barzan stated that the software will be designed to ingest, analyze, and distribute intelligence from a wide range of sensors and operational systems. By enabling faster data fusion and information sharing, the tools are intended to support real-time decision-making in increasingly contested and multi-domain operational environments.
The agreement in Qatar forms part of a wider pattern of partnerships pursued by GA-ASI in recent years, as the company shifts toward integrated ISR, software, and mission systems. This approach mirrors evolving military requirements for networked platforms capable of delivering persistent intelligence and command-and-control support.
Earlier, GA-ASI expanded cooperation with Saab to examine AEW&C mission concepts based on the MQ-9B unmanned aircraft, integrating Saab’s advanced sensors to provide long-endurance surveillance without the cost and risk of crewed aircraft.
In addition, GA-ASI continues joint efforts with the EDGE Group of the United Arab Emirates, focusing on unmanned and intelligence solutions tailored to regional defense needs, while its ongoing partnership with Hanwha Aerospace supports maritime intelligence and surveillance missions using the MQ-9B SeaGuardian for South Korea and allied operators.
