Final tests and improvements are currently underway for the first unit of the Royal Navy’s next-generation electronic warfare system, which has just come off the assembly line. The Type 45 destroyers, the two Queen Elizabeth-class carriers, and the upcoming Type 26 and 31 frigates will all be equipped with the Maritime Electronic Warfare System Integrated Capability (MEWSIC). The system was created by a Babcock-led team with Elbit Systems UK and QinetiQ under a 13-year, $100 million ($125 million) contract.
