Absher Construction Company has been contracted by the U.S. Navy to build a new support center for armored fighting vehicles at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor, Washington. The award includes $22.8 million for initial construction and $1 million more for interior outfitting, furniture, and physical security improvements.

The facility will feature five service bay divisions, a paint booth, and a blast booth to accommodate specialized repair and sustainment needs. The Navy explained that work will begin with site preparation such as forest clearing, structural fill, and stormwater management before the metal structure is erected.

When complete, the project will deliver full-service maintenance capabilities, administrative areas, and a large vehicle reception space. This will enhance the Marine Corps Security Force Battalion Bangor’s ability to sustain its AFVs while ensuring continuous protection for the Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific—home to the Navy’s Pacific-based ballistic missile submarine fleet.

The unit currently operates Humvees, MRAPs, and light armored vehicles, which will all benefit from the new facility. The project is scheduled for completion by October 2027, overseen by Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command.
