To better protect the mental health of US service members, the Pentagon has implemented the Cognitive Monitoring Program, which focuses on analyzing and maintaining optimal cognitive function throughout a soldier’s military journey. It tracks how individuals think, react, and perform in mentally demanding scenarios.
A mix of digital assessments and health questionnaires helps evaluate ten crucial cognitive faculties, including memory and decision-making. Additional questions explore emotional well-being, trauma symptoms, and sleep patterns. By conducting initial screenings early in one’s enlistment and repeating them over time, the program aims to ensure peak mental readiness and allow swift intervention when cognitive issues are detected.
