The U.S. Missile Defense Agency has received its first upgraded AN/TPY-2 radar equipped with Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology, enhancing its ability to detect, track, and differentiate ballistic missile threats. Developed by Raytheon, the advanced radar offers greater sensitivity, extended range, and improved surveillance capabilities, making it particularly suited for hypersonic defense. It also incorporates CX6 high-performance computing software for accurate target identification and protection against electronic attacks. Operating in the X-band frequency, the system effectively distinguishes real threats from non-threatening objects. Although this is the first GaN-equipped model, it marks the 13th AN/TPY-2 radar delivered to the U.S. government.
