The U.S. Department of Defense is accelerating its Virginia-class submarine program by awarding a $5-billion logistics contract to six small businesses. Managed by the Defense Logistics Agency, the goal is to streamline acquisition and deployment of submarine components and systems.

The Maritime Acquisition Advancement Contract spans five years and allows for extensions that could bring the cumulative value to $10 billion. The six awarded firms—ASRC Federal, SupplyCore, S&K Aerospace, Atlantic Diving Supply, Culmen International, and Fairwinds Technologies—will handle a broad range of support services for U.S. Navy submarines.
