In a major step toward defense-industrial integration, Ukraine and the United Kingdom have signed an agreement to jointly produce thousands of Octopus-100 interceptor drones. The deal was concluded in London between the two countries’ ministries of defense as part of the “Build with Ukraine” program, and was announced by the Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council. Under the arrangement, manufacturing will take place in the UK, making it the first NATO country to host serial production of a Ukrainian combat drone.
The co-production agreement elevates Kyiv and London’s defense partnership to an unprecedented level, shifting from procurement-based support to collaborative manufacturing. For Ukraine, it promises accelerated deployment and reliable resupply of advanced aerial defense assets; for the UK, it embeds domestic industry into a vital wartime supply chain, reinforcing its position as a leading European defense hub. The deal also represents a symbolic step toward deeper NATO–Ukraine industrial cooperation amid ongoing regional security challenges.
The initiative gained momentum following recent political engagement, where President Zelenskyy showcased the Octopus-100 drone to the UK Prime Minister, drawing attention to its role in air defense modernization. The project reflects both nations’ shared emphasis on rapid production scalability and allied-standard manufacturing processes, ensuring interoperability and quality assurance across the supply chain.
The Octopus-100 is classified as an interceptor drone, developed to neutralize enemy drones and safeguard critical infrastructure. While detailed specifications remain confidential, its conceptual design suggests a high-speed, modular, and easily producible platform built for mass deployment under combat conditions. Embedding production within NATO territory ensures streamlined certification, durability testing, and logistical efficiency, aligning with allied manufacturing standards and operational doctrines.
