Türkiye’s indigenous ANKA III unmanned combat aerial vehicle is entering a decisive phase, with the Turkish Air Force expected to place an initial procurement order of more than 50 aircraft in 2026, according to senior aerospace officials. The move signals a clear shift from experimental development to production-oriented planning, underscoring Ankara’s intent to rapidly operationalize the stealth UCAV as part of its evolving air force structure.

Turkish Aerospace Industries has confirmed that the ANKA III has passed its critical design review, resulting in a finalized configuration and the start of production-related activities. Lessons learned from earlier prototypes have been incorporated into the frozen design, while additional aircraft featuring the updated configuration are scheduled to be built in 2026. This overlap between continued prototyping and production preparation is expected to accelerate industrial learning and reduce the time required to reach initial operational deployment.

Recent testing milestones further highlight the program’s maturity. The ANKA III’s latest verification flights have focused on autonomous flight systems, validating core control logic within its expanding operational envelope. These achievements lay the foundation for more complex mission-level autonomy, including cooperative tasking with other platforms and seamless participation in networked air operations under contested conditions.

As the program advances, attention is increasingly shifting toward fleet-level considerations such as training infrastructure, maintenance concepts, software maturity, and long-term sustainment. If confirmed, the projected 2026 order would position the ANKA III as one of the most significant UCAV procurements in Türkiye’s history, reinforcing its ambition to field a domestically developed, stealth-capable unmanned combat force.
